At Stoneworld we support fair trade, and only operate with suppliers who comply with our ethical trading policy.
We regularly appraise our suppliers against these legal criteria.
This policy sets out the minimum labour standards that are legally required.
- Employment is freely chosen.
- Working conditions are safe and hygienic.
- Child labour is not used (child means below the age of 14 years, unless local minimum age law stipulates a higher age of work or mandatory schooling, in which case the higher age shall apply).
- Wages and benefits meet the minimum standard.
- No discrimination is practised.
- Human and civil rights are respected.
Whilst this is where the legal bar is set, we are happy to tell you that our supplier goes way beyond the minimum standards required by law.
We have now been trading in excess of 19 years, and the relationship we have with our suppliers is one of family friend rather than just stone supplier! As friends we are able to discuss and mutually agree what standards we expect, both in the quality of the stone and the integrity of the business that supplies it to us.
At Stoneworld we don’t want to hide behind a meaningless badge of convenience that supposedly tells our customers that we have integrity!

Stoneworld has visited and monitored all aspects of the supply chain including quality, working conditions and general employment practices.
Our supplier ensures that all the stone that Stoneworld sells is of a sustained quality.
This is achieved by running a professional business with careful and safe practices that protect the health and safety of workers. In turn, workers give a professional commitment to produce quality products.
No children are employed in the quarries where our stone is sourced, they are at school. No-one under 21 years works in the quarries.
Furthermore, as a reward for loyalty and productivity, parents are given a bonus to pay for their eldest girl to be educated, as in India the law only requires boys to be educated.
Workers at the quarries we use also receive free medical cover, holiday and sick pay, plus are paid above the minimum wage.
Our supplier is a forward thinking guy and we are proud to work with him.
