3 things you might not know about natural stone in winter

As winter is upon us, there are some things you may not know about natural stone...

Do you know the benefits of having natural stone in winter? Read below to find out more.

Natural stone flooring can be laid over your under-floor heating

This is something that a lot of people are surprised by! However, natural stone flooring is the perfect choice for your home in all seasons, as it reaps a number of benefits. In winter, natural stone flooring will conserve heat and conduct it slowly, meaning it can lower your heating bills. In contrast, in the summer months, natural stone flooring helps to keep your home cool.

Natural stone paving is safer in winter

Natural stone paving is porous (some more so than others, but all have an element of porosity) and this means that water and moisture are able to soak in. Porcelain paving on the other hand, is not porous at all, meaning it does not absorb any moisture. This can be a problem in winter, as if this layer of water or moisture freezes on the porcelain paving, it can create a slippery surface.

Seal your natural stone

Although natural stone is safer during winter than other materials such as porcelain, Stoneworld recommend always sealing your natural stone, to protect it from any winter weather-induced damage. By sealing your natural stone, this will keep your stone looking fantastic for years to come, and will also ensure it is easier to clean and maintain.
