Commissioned by the Local Community
In early 2012, Stoneworld was approached by residents of Warborough, a village near Wallingford in Oxfordshire, to create a memorial stone to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The aim was to produce a meaningful, durable marker to commemorate the occasion within the village landscape.
Material Selection & Preparation
A suitable green slate monolith was selected for its character, natural beauty, and long-term resilience outdoors. Before the inscription could be carved, an area of the stone surface was honed to create a smooth, refined finish suitable for detailed lettering while preserving the natural surface elsewhere on the stone.
The result is a respectful, understated memorial that sits comfortably within its rural surroundings.
Marking Historic Moments in Stone
This project demonstrates how natural stone can be used to mark significant events with permanence and elegance. Our team can assist with commemorative stones, memorial plaques, public markers, and bespoke civic projects, offering support with stone selection, inscription preparation, and fabrication.
