Sculptured Heads

Our digital stone carving robot created these impressive sculptured heads in york stone.

For this project, we were asked to work directly from a clay maquette created by the sculptor. The bust was first digitally scanned, capturing every form and surface detail from the original model. This scan provided an accurate digital file to guide the next stage of production.

Robotic Carving in Natural Stone

The sculpture was then reproduced in York Stone using our digital stone-carving robot. The bust was intentionally left in a rough-cut state, allowing the sculptor to refine and finish the surface by hand. This approach combines precision technology with traditional sculptural techniques — giving the sculptor full creative control while significantly reducing the initial shaping time.

Versatility in Artistic Workflows

As demonstrated here, our robotic carving system can support a wide range of artistic styles and workflows, from precise replicas to rough forms intended for further hand finishing. It enables artists and designers to scale their work into stone accurately and efficiently, while preserving the creative process.
