Patio and Interior Stone Cleaning
Our own team cleans natural stone indoors and out, from patios and exterior paving to floors, worktops and bar tops. We help homeowners and businesses across Oxfordshire and beyond restore the natural appearance of their stone surfaces.
We choose how to clean each surface based on the type of stone and its finish. After 25 years of sourcing, cutting and working with natural stone, we know how different stones respond to cleaning and which methods will preserve their finish.
Where the stone is used matters too. Outside, damp and shade can encourage algae and lichen on patios and paths. Indoors, the challenges are more often tracked-in grit, spills and the build-up of everyday dirt. Here’s how we approach cleaning in each setting.
Exterior Stone Cleaning
Our skilled operatives visit your premises to clean your exterior stone surfaces using the latest machinery. Our goal is not only to make your stone look perfect, but to ensure it remains in excellent condition.
- Patios, paving and driveways. Cleaned, then sealed where the stone benefits from it.
- Black spot and algae. Treated with the Rob Parker’s Best range.
- Delicate and heritage stone. Jet washers are at our disposal, but for delicate stone such as that found on heritage buildings, our DOFF service is recommended instead: a high temperature, low pressure steam cleaner.
Interior Stone Cleaning
Interior work is scheduled around the building and carried out of hours where a space cannot be closed.
- Stone floors. Limestone, marble, travertine, slate and sandstone are cleaned with rotary machinery and extraction, then honed, polished or sealed as the floor needs. Browse our interior stone range.
- Worktops, vanity surfaces and bar tops. Cleaned, re-polished where the stone allows and re-sealed, so the next spill sits on top instead of soaking in.
- Commercial and hospitality interiors. Hotel lobbies, restaurant floors and reception areas.
How We Work
- Identify the stone and its finish. Photographs are usually enough to start.
- Assess what is wrong: surface soiling, ingrained dirt, etching or staining.
- Clean a test patch and show you the result, before anything is applied across the whole area.
- Clean, rinse and seal, then advise which products suit the stone and which to keep away from it.
Why Stoneworld
We supply, cut and clean stone for over 25 years. That hands-on experience helps us identify what caused a surface to deteriorate and recommend how best to restore it. Our accreditations include Stone Federation Great Britain, Bali, and we hold ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certifications.
Expert Care, Minimal Disruption
In a hotel, restaurant or busy commercial space, taking a floor out of use can cost you. We plan stone cleaning around your opening hours and work one area at a time where needed, so you can keep welcoming guests and serving customers.
At The Randolph Hotel in Oxford, our team cleaned the marble bar top after the bar closed for the night. You can see more of our work in our project portfolio.
The Products We Use
Twenty-five years of working with stone have taught us what to look for in a cleaner or sealer. We developed our Rob Parker’s Best range with a specialist chemist, and we use the same products we recommend to our customers.
If you’d rather do the job yourself, browse our stone cleaning range or explore the full stone care collection. If you’re unsure what’s the right for your surface, give us a call before you buy.
Sealing and Aftercare
Cleaning lifts dirt and residue from stone. Sealing helps protect if rom future spills and growth. An impregnating sealer penetrates the stone’s pores and slows absorption, giving you more time to wipe up a spill before it leave a stain.
As a rule of thumb, most indoor stone floors benefit from resealing every three to five years. kitchen floors and busy commercial entrances may need it sooner.

Stone Cleaning Questions, Answered
How much does stone cleaning cost?
It depends on the stone, the area, its condition and whether sealing or polishing is needed, so we quote per job rather than per square metre. Send photographs and the approximate size of the space and we will give you a realistic figure before anyone visits.
Can a stone floor be cleaned, or does it need replacing?
In most cases it can be cleaned. Natural stone is solid material rather than a surface layer, so unless tiles are cracked, loose or worn through, the problem sits on top of the stone and can be removed.
Will cleaning remove scratches and dull patches?
No. These marks are signs of surface damage. Honing or polishing removes a thin layer of stone to restore the finish. If black limestone has also lost some of its depth of colour, a colour-enhancing sealer can help bring back its darker tone once the surface has been restored.
Is pressure washing safe for natural stone?
On granite and dense sandstone, controlled pressure is fine. On limestone, slate, travertine and older masonry, high pressure opens the pores and lifts the surface, which is why we match the pressure and the treatment to the stone rather than reaching for the jet wash.
How often should a stone floor be professionally cleaned?
A domestic floor mopped with a pH-neutral cleaner typically needs professional attention every two to four years. Commercial entrances and hospitality floors are usually annual. Sealing extends both.
What products do you use?
Rob Parker’s Best, across cleaning, restoring and sealing. We stock the range because it is the one we trust on our own jobs, so the advice we give you and the work we do ourselves run on the same products.
Which areas do you cover?
We work from Great Milton in Oxfordshire, covering Oxford, Thame, Bicester, Banbury, Abingdon and the surrounding counties. For larger and commercial projects we travel further, so please ask.
Find out what your stone needs
Send us a few photos, tell us roughly how large the area is and describe what you’d like us to look at. If you know the type of stone or what’s been used to clean or seal it before, include that too. Whether it’s a patio, an indoor floor, a worktop or a bar top, our team will advise on the best way to clean it and explain what you can expect from the treatment.
