Juliet Haysom was commissioned to create a series of large sculptures for the newly redeveloped Royal Terrace Gardens in Torquay, officially opened in October 2010. The project carried an Italian theme, and Juliet’s concept featured three identical works shaped from Carrara marble — paying tribute to the material’s classical heritage.
Stoneworld were pleased to support Juliet through the stone sourcing and fabrication stages, ensuring that her vision translated accurately into the finished sculptures.
Material Sourcing & Digital Development
The Carrara marble was sourced directly from Italy by Stoneworld and transported to the UK specially for the commission. Juliet produced a full-scale clay model, capturing the exact form and detail required for each piece.
This model was then digitally scanned in our workshop using our Konica Minolta Vivid 9i non-contact laser scanner, allowing us to produce a precise digital file. This level of accuracy ensured that every sculptural detail was faithfully carried through from the artist’s clay original to the final marble works.
Stoneworld’s masonry workshop was proud to collaborate on this project, preparing the marble forms in accordance with Juliet’s design and artistic direction. Combining advanced digital scanning with expert stone handling allowed us to support the process from raw block to sculptural form.
This commission demonstrates how traditional artistic practice and modern stone technology can work seamlessly together to deliver exceptional results in public spaces.
