Barset Yorkstone Garden Rill
Inquiries are often made about bespoke garden rills and water features, and recently, an invitation was extended to us by Rob Parker, the MD of Stoneworld, to his home to take a look around. One of the many natural stone features included in his garden design is a Barset Yorkstone garden rill. The benefits of a garden rill were explained by Rob, who provided details about the construction process with the aim of creating a space that promoted relaxation and elevated the overall aesthetic of his garden.
A garden rill is characterised by a narrow, shallow water channel that winds through the garden terrain, adding a delightful visual aspect and enhancing the overall ambience. The idea of incorporating a garden rill within Rob’s home originated from its inherent ability to bring a sense of tranquillity.
For this project, Rob chose one of Stoneworld’s British sandstone copings, Barset Yorkstone, which was crafted in our Oxfordshire workshop. This classic British sandstone has a constant green/brown colour, which seamlessly fits into the natural landscape of Rob’s country home.
In the implementation of the garden rill, the rill itself boasts a depth of 600mm and is meticulously constructed using sturdy concrete blocks and a concrete base. To ensure impermeability, specialised pond waterproofing techniques were carefully employed to waterproof the rill. To finish off the design, the inner edge of the Barset Yorkstone Pool Copings has been elegantly rounded with a bull-nosed edge.
By incorporating flowers and a lawn on either side of the rill, a heightened sense of natural beauty encompasses this tranquil space. Numerous summer evenings are spent by Rob, enjoying the soothing sound of flowing water through the rill.
