Cotswold Shale 0/10mm path gravel is a practical and naturally attractive surface for garden pathways, driveways and landscaped areas.

A blend of our popular rounded Cotswold Shale and self-binding fines is used to create a firm, compacted finish while retaining the character of traditional loose gravel. The rounded shale provides a softer, more smoother surface underfoot than our Cotswold Cream Self-Binding Gravel, which is produced using a more angular aggregate.

Its natural appearance works comfortably within both traditional and contemporary landscapes, providing a durable surface that is straightforward to maintain when correctly installed.

Coverage = 8sqm per tonne – Spread the material out to a depth of approximately 75mm in order to achieve a finished compacted thickness of 50mm.

Installation & Maintenance
- Prepare the ground
  Excavate the area and install a suitable edging.
- Lay the sub-base
  Add and firmly compact a Type 1 sub-base, ensuring a slight fall for drainage.
- Apply the gravel
  Spread the Cotswold Shale Self-Binding Gravel to a loose depth of approximately 75mm.
- Water and compact
  Level the surface, water evenly and roll until the fines rise and form a firm, compacted finish of approximately 50mm.
- Allow to dry
  Keep the area free from traffic until fully dry. This may take up to two weeks, depending on the weather.
- Maintain the surface
  Repair divots or potholes by digging down to the sub-base, refilling and compacting. Treat weeds before carefully removing them.
